Christian Nationalism in our Military

Pete Hegseth is now telling the nation that we have a crisis with our Military Chaplains, and that there will be an overhaul of that service, to implement the teachings that Franklin Graham preached at the Pentagon’s Christmas Prayer Breakfast.

There, Franklin taught that “Yes, God is a God of love, but He is also a God of hate, and a God of War!”

I know military chaplains and the burdens that they carry. Hegseth is crossing lines here that are alarming and un Christian.

I was sickened, and saddened by Franklin Graham’s Christmas message at the Pentagon prayer breakfast, and now, that message of their “God of hate…. and God of War” will be implemented at the chaplain level of our military.

Franklin is definitely not his father! Billy Graham was America’s pastor because he didn’t play politics! He was the spiritual advisor to every President, both Republican and Democratic, until his death.

He was political when he was young, but then repented and STRONGLY warned Christians on the Right to NOT get involved in politics!

Billy and Ruth Graham were lifelong friends with my Great Aunt and Uncle. They had met on their honeymoons, staying at the same resort, and remained friends until their deaths, often vacationing together.

My uncle had always wanted to become a pastor, but financial responsibilities prevented that. When I was ordained, he cried and told me that I was his legacy.

I had the opportunity to meet Pastor Graham and spend personal time with him. He was a humble and gentle man, who would never be a part of this Christian Nationalism. He would be devastated to see his son leading the pack. Pastor Graham remembered what happened in Germany with the Church that supported Hitler’s rise to power. He knew that politics and religion should never mix.

Franklin’s message was twisted doctrine to fit the Christian Nationalist agenda.

Unfortunately, there are too many “baby Christians” in our country, and our military, to know the difference.

When a pastor preaches from the old testament, about the Israelites slaughtering the Amalekites, as his Christmas message, he’s missed the whole point of the New Testament, and the Messiah that Christmas celebrates. It’s a NEW Covenant, that embraces both Jew AND gentile! The OTHERS that Jesus commands us to love!

It’s also un American, because nowhere does our constitution say that our military has to be Christian to begin with! We are NOT jehadists! We don’t force Christianity on others! We were never called to create Christian Nations!

The Old Testament is there is to teach us how we could never be “good enough”, and why we needed a Messiah!

Yes, God is a just God, but only He will be the one to bring His judgment on mankind. It is NOT our job, now that Jesus has taken on the sins of the world!

Jesus was more concerned, and upset about the condition of the hearts of the religious people than He was with the “sinners”, who He embraced, ate with, and surrounded Himself with!

Jesus told us what our jobs are now! Love our Father God, and love ALL others. There is a thing called “Spiritual Warfare”, but it’s not a physical war! It’s done with prayer, in case anyone missed that point!

Stick to the Red Letters, Christians! The things that Jesus did, and taught us to do!

Jesus told the religious people that there is a Broad Road that leads to Destruction, and that MOST religious people will be on it, in the End.

The Narrow Gate is ALL about Love and relationships. That’s the whole point. So simple but the most difficult truth for many Christians to grasp… If your religion stirs up hatred in your heart for anyone, it’s not true Christianity!

If you are a true Christ Follower, stop letting these Wolves hijack your faith! They are NOT a light for anyone! They’re pure darkness… Be a light!
